Ordnance Survey Grid Convertor Database
I had some interest in the Access module for converting Ordnance Survey NGRs to Eastings and Northings (and vice versa) so I thought I’d risk putting the database on the site for download. It’s in Access 97 but should translate up to newer versions without much trouble.
I should also add that several people commented last week about an online NGR converter that looks really handy, and this excel spreadsheet full of handy vba functions for conversion offline.
Obviously this database is offered with no warranty: it has been scanned for viruses but I won’t be responsible for any damage done to you, your computer, pets, family, work colleagues, friends etc whilst using it. Other than that, you can share it, alter it or otherwise hack it to pieces. A little linkage back to here would be appreciated if it’s useful though!
Where is it? Here

You are gonna hate me, this looks fantastic and just what I need but when i try to run it (or convert to access 2000/3) I get the message “your DB contains a missing or broken reference to the file ‘nps_arc2ax.dll’ version 3.0″ does anyone know how i resolve this please? Thanks in advance, Richie
Hi Richie,
My fault, sorry. I’ve uploaded a cleaner version, try it again and let me know if you have the same issue.
Jo
Yeah, that’s fantastic. Thanks so much. Richie
there’s also an excel spreadsheet available from the University of Bangor whch contains VBa functions for various OS coordinate conversions: http://www.bangor.ac.uk/is/iss025/osgb.xls
Hi Paul,
That’s really good to know. I will edit the original post to include the link.
Thanks for stopping by!

I have a Wind speed database,The database uses the
Ordnance Survey grid systems for both Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The grid references used describe the bottom left corner of each 1km square.
Here are sample values, There are 1299 values for each 0,100,200,300,400,500,600
0, 1299
100, 1299
200, 1299
300, 1299
400, 1299
500, 1299
600, 1299
Is there a way to convert it into lat/long
Any help is appreciated
Hi Mak,
I’d have to think about that one! Can you display the data on a map as it stands, in other words can you convert to standard British National Grid? If you can then some of the converters mentioned in the links might be able to help.
