Hey Leszek,

Thanks for giving the new version a go- glad you're making progress with it! I have a theory (that might be completely wrong) why openev doesn't work. I think it looks for some dlls in your system path BEFORE looking in the portable gis directory, so if you have installed FWTools before it will find the other versions of the dlls and fail. Assuming that you have run the setup file for FWTools, it's worth opening .\usbgis\apps\FWtools2.1.0\openev.bat from the command line and seeing if it gives you an error.

Regarding the size- yes it does come in at just over a GB now- which is a shame. I am reluctant to play around too much with the configuration as that makes it very hard for people to upgrade it, but I'll be interested to see your post for how to get the size down!

All the best

Finally got a break from digging in the dirt, and have tried Portable GIS again, version 1.2 this time. I've copied it onto a USB drive, and also into my PC's root drive. For both cases:

- Unlike the first time, GRASS and gvSIG run - yay!
- OpenEV brings up a command window quickly that disappears immediately
- QGIS runs
- GeoServer, Xampp and PostGreSQL seem to run, but I'm not familiar enough with the function of these to say for sure.

I was bit disappointed that I couldn't get these files to initially fit onto a standard 1 GB thumb drive in the default configuration, but I figured out a way to do that without deleting any files, and with 250 MB of free space. I'll add that procedure to my blog post on Portable GIS at Free Geography Tools in a few days.

Ho Hum,

It would appear that our download server is questioning it's existence as, well, a download server right now. My colleagues are working on it, but as I'm away for a couple of days now, don't expect an announcement until the middle of next week...

Thanks for all your interest and kind comments!

I've been trying since yesterday, and always get the same 404 error. There seems to be an issue with that download site? Thanks...

I think that's the problem... it's definitely there (I've tried it myself a couple of times to check). Thanks for trying though- hopefully you'll be able to download it later!
